For many in the equestrian community, mid-winter brings little opportunity for riding and driving since most of our time is spent ensuring that our four-legged friends have plenty of hay and water to get through the cold and sometimes inclement weather. During the winter months, at its annual meeting and banquet, MHSA takes the opportunity to celebrate our champions, to relive some of those once-in-a-lifetime moments, and to refresh and recharge as a community of equestrians. For one day, usually in late January, we gather in Columbia, to discuss current issues, to ensure that proposed rules meet the needs of the membership, and, of course, to re-connect with friends from around the region. And, to top the celebration off, we congratulate equestrians, young and old, for their accomplishments in the past year and recognize those accomplishments with gorgeous tri-color ribbons and lovely awards. The awards have ranged from horse coolers and dress sheets, to halters, to director’s chairs, to the most recent award–etched wooden groom boxes.
