Ruth Pfeffer, one of the grandest of the grand dames of the horse world, died on Monday, December 2, 2013. Mrs. Pfeffer, the mother of Joe Pfeffer and Margaret Gilleo, and grandmother to Elizabeth Muckerman, Lyle Seddon, Lawrence Muckerman and Jacqueline Pfeffer, was born September 20, 1912 and was a lifelong supporter of the American Saddlebred. The owner of Sea Beauty Farm in Chesterfield, she introduced many in the St. Louis area to the joys of riding, and rode herself until her later years. Some of her greatest triumphs in the ring were with the three gaited champion, Sea Beauty, who she rode under the direction of Helen and Charlie Crabtree. She was associated professionally with many great horsemen, including Jimmie Hite, Ron, Mark and Don Hulse, the Crabtrees, and Art Simmons. She was especially proud of the horses she raised, including the great CH Satan’s Seductress, and teh accomplishements of her children and grandchildren.
